Cerro Catedral

The highest point in Uruguay — 514 metres and a view over the Sierra de Carapé.

Hiking

It is not a mountain, it is a low, broad range; but the top of Cerro Catedral offers the only view of a hill horizon in the country. The climb takes about two hours on a marked trail, starting from Villa Serrana or Aiguá.

What you should not miss

  • Summit at 514 m, the highest in the country
  • Villa Serrana and the Ventorrillo de la Buena Vista
  • Penitente stream waterfall
  • Clear skies for astrophotography
